This year for the first time ever the Africa Architecture Awards 2017 will be held. It is a chance for African Architects and project that are built on the continent to be put in the spotlight. The awards will be judged by the best and brightest minds on the continent.

There are a number of different categories from built projects to student projects. There’s also a people choice award where members of the public can choose their favourite project. The main of the Awards is to help showcase Africa, from its students to its most well-known architects. A small excerpt from their website ‘The Africa Architecture Awards seek to celebrate design excellence and promote an increased awareness of the role and importance of architecture across Africa. Based on values rather than categories, the awards seek to honour established architects and encourage emerging and future voices.’

Some of the current entries are the SOS Childrens’ Village International, Djibouti by Urko Sanchez, Motshegofidiwa Primary by Kate Otten and the Delft Exchange Towers. One can enter until the 30th of June and until the 18th of August for the peoples choice awards.
